BACKPACK PROGRAM
There are children in the West Windsor-Plainsboro School District who live in households where there is not enough income or resources to adequately feed the family. School-based breakfast and lunch programs functioning Monday through Friday fail to meet nutritional needs over weekends. The goal of our kid’s backpack program called Send Hunger Packing™ is to reduce and mitigate child hunger in our community by providing weekend meal packages containing kid-friendly nutritious food to children who face food shortages at home and are most at-risk for food insecurity.
First and foremost, Send Hunger Packing West Windsor-Plainsboro fills a meal gap for children who otherwise have little to eat over the weekend.
Second, ensuring the children are well fed improves their chances for academic success and school performance.
Third, the program raises awareness about child hunger in our own community.
Last, Send Hunger Packing West Windsor-Plainsboro engages people to seek solutions to end child hunger.
You can be a part of the community response to hunger by donating funds to help pay for weekend backpacks.
